July 2018: Vanessa will speak at the 2018 University of Wisconsin Collegiate Conference on Emergency Management. She will be focusing on Impacts of Traumatic Events on Campus, Lessons Learned in the Umpqua Community College School Shooting.
May 2018: V Consulting finalized two major Community Health Assessments in rural Oregon. Both Curry and Coos Counties worked with V Consulting to lead a thorough, community based assessment process. The process included community engagement, primary data collection and secondary data analysis. It resulted in documents that met the needs of local public health, local hospitals, coordinated care organizations and many other vital community organizations.
April 2018: Vanessa will speak about the impacts of traumatic events on organizations at the National Disaster Resilient Universities Network Summit.
February 2018: Vanessa will speak at the Special District Association of Oregon annual conference. The topic will be Boardroom Dancing, the Key Executive Director and Board Relationship.
January 2018: Vanessa was appointed by Governor Kate Brown to the Oregon Higher Education Coordinating Commission (HECC). The HECC is responsible for advising the governor, legislature and education office on statewide postsecondary education policies and funding.
July 2017: Vanessa, working with another esteemed consultant, finished a unique and robust curriculum for community teams wanting to learn about collaborative community health assessments. The contract was a partnership with the Oregon Transformation Center, Oregon Association of Hospitals and Health Systems and the Oregon Public Health Division.
May 2017: V Consulting is finalizing two Community Health Needs Assessments (CHNA) for hospitals in rural Oregon. The processes included primary data collection, secondary data analysis and professional design services to create a professional and useful CHNA for the hospitals.
February 2017: Harvard University has invited Vanessa to participate in their Crisis Leadership in Higher Education session, at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. Vanessa will be sharing insights on leading through traumatic events, based largely on her leadership experience with Umpqua Community College.

January 2017: Vanessa is booked to present an exciting workshop on volunteer engagement in Brookings, Oregon in February of 2017. The workshop and ice cream social will cover the “care and feeding” of volunteers and how to build and maintain a robust volunteer program in your rural nonprofit. November 2016: Vanessa will be the keynote speaker at the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education Campus Safety & Security Summit. Her focus will be on her volunteer role as Board Chair of the Umpqua Community College Board of Trustees.
October 2016: V Consulting accepted a request by the Oregon Department of Justice to present a half day training on Leadership in Traumatic Times at their annual Directors Day summit. The training workshop combined principles of leadership and trauma informed systems with Vanessa’s extensive experience leading through crisis and trauma.
August 2016: Vanessa facilitated a legislative priority setting session for Oregon oral health advocates. Oral health professionals, legislators and advocates for improved oral health services in the era of health transformation met in Portland to discuss legislative priorities for the 2017 Oregon Legislative Session.
Spring 2016: Vanessa has been invited and spoken locally, statewide and nationally on lessons learned from the UCC tragedy. Focus has been on trauma informed systems of response and leadership during traumatic events.
January 2016: V Consulting presents “Revenue Models: What does your Ideal Revenue ‘Pie’ Look Like” training in Grants Pass, Oregon.
December 2015: Vanessa is invited by the FBI and joins the Douglas County Sherriff and Fire Chief to speak about lessons learned from the tragedy on the Umpqua Community College on October first.; Vanessa also accepted an Interim Executive Director position for a statewide nonprofit organization, The Oregon CASA Network.
July 2015: Vanessa is nominated and wins election for Chair and President of the Umpqua Community College Board of Trustees for a third term.
May 2015: Vanessa speaks at Coordinated Care Organization Community Advisory Council Summit in Bend, Oregon. Topics included Building & Maintaining a High Performing CAC and how to increase engagement of consumer members.
January 2015: Vanessa has joined a group of three other acclaimed consultants providing coaching and teaching for the University of Oregon Law School Nonprofit Clinic. The program is a dynamic interdisciplinary program designed to strengthen Oregon nonprofit organizations and works with graduate students in law, public policy and conflict resolution.
December 2014: V Consulting is now contracting with the Oregon Transformation Center to provide technical assistance to Coordinated Care Organizations across the state. As part of the contract, Vanessa spoke at the recent Coordinated Care Model Summit, drawing international interest in the health system transformation process in Oregon.
November 2014: Vanessa & V Consulting has been invited to speak at the American Public Health Conference in New Orleans in November, (see powerpoint presentation here). September 2014: Vanessa is honored to be the keynote speaker at the Second Annual Nonprofit Symposium on September 18th, sponsored by Pacific Continental Bank.

May 2014: Vanessa will be speaking at the Oregon Coordinated Care Organization Summit in May. She will be talking about how to engage community members and Medicaid (Oregon Health Plan) consumers in community health planning and how to build high performing community advisory councils (CACs).

Guest segments have included the “The Jefferson Exchange”a talk show sponsored by the Southern Oregon National Public Radio channel and the half hour “Talking Health” show on Brooke Communications in Douglas County. December 2014: V Consulting has completed a community health assessment for three Coordinated Care Organizations (CCOs) in Josephine and Jackson Counties. Vanessa, Carolyn, Susan and Summer worked with CCO leadership, Community Advisory Council members and the Oregon Health Authority to complete the 11 month project. The project was a unique collaboration with three competing CCOs and resulted in a comprehensive health assessment. V Consulting has now successfully led Community Health Assessments for 25% of the Coordinated Care Organizations (CCOs) in the State of Oregon.
November 2014: Vanessa will be presenting at the Oregon Coordinated Care Organization (CCO) Summit, “Transformation in Action” in Portland on December 5th. Vanessa will be presenting as an expert on Community Health Assessments and Community Health Improvement Plans.
October 2013: Umpqua Health Alliance, one of the first Coordinated Care Organizations (CCOs) in Oregon, has released their Community Health Assessment. V Consulting & Associates led the 12 month process resulting in a comprehensive document that meets the Oregon Health Authority requirement and Public Health Accreditation standards. The process included extensive community input, significant work with the CCO Community Advisory Council, comprehensive health status data analysis and media promotion.
March 2013: Vanessa has filed for a second term as a Trustee of Umpqua Community College for district seven, representing all of Douglas county. Vanessa won the public election in May of 2009 with over 60% of the vote and remains the youngest board President of a college west of the Rockies.
December 2012: Vanessa will be presenting the High-Impact Nonprofit Organization training and a new training called Harnessing the Power of Storytelling to Promote your Nonprofit at the 9th Annual Nonprofit Organization Conference in Corvallis, Oregon in January. June 2012: Vanessa was nominated and chosen as a fellow of the American Leadership Forum. She will join twenty-five men and women - proven leaders from all sectors in Oregon-beginning in July 2012, for an 18 month fellowship. The American Leadership Forum is a national network, each dedicated to building stronger communities by joining and strengthening leaders to serve the public good. It enhances leadership by building on the strengths of diversity and by promoting collaborative problem solving within and among communities. Vanessa is honored to be provided such an opportunity and excited to begin using what she learns and the networks she builds in her consulting practice.
April 2012: V Consulting has launched a new, comprehensive organization assessment to its list of services. If you would like to engage your board and executive staff in a thorough evaluation of processes related to nonprofit administration, management and services, please contact Vanessa for information. The assessment service bundle includes online assessment tools, site interviews and results in a list of succinct, practical and realistic recommendations specific to your organization. This is a great process to complete before you start a strategic planning process, during an executive transition or if you are having significant challenges with funding and don't know where to start.
March 2012: Financial Stewardship Resources Inc. has asked Vanessa to speak at their training in Gold Beach Oregon March 31st. Topics will include board recruitment and building a healthy board/executive relationship. Trainings will be small and casual groups with opportunity for a lot of interaction and consulting advice. December 2011: The Department of Justice nominated Vanessa to represent her home state of Oregon at a policy assembly in Washington DC in January. The meeting is funded by the National Crittenton Foundation, the Rebecca Project for Human Rights & the Georgetown Center on Poverty, Inequality and Public Policy. The meeting will focus on developing innovative state policies and programs for marginalized girls and women.
October 27, 2011: Vanessa will be speaking at the Oregon Community College Association‛s annual conference October 27th, 2011. She will be discussing what it takes to be a successful candidate for a college Presidency, in her capacity as Chair of the Umpqua Community College Board of Trustees.
May 2011: Vanessa was recognized by the Greater Douglas United Way in May 2011 with the George Gratke Award. Vanessa joins a list of many notable philanthropists who have received this horoable award for excellence in volunteer service and dedication to improving community.
