V Consulting finalized two major Community Health Assessments in rural Oregon. Both Curry and Coos Counties worked with V Consulting to lead a thorough, community based assessment process. The process included community engagement, primary data collection and secondary data analysis. It resulted in documents that met the needs of local public health, local hospitals, coordinated care organizations and many other vital community organizations.

Vanessa was appointed by Governor Kate Brown to the Oregon Higher Education Coordinating Commission (HECC). The HECC is responsible for advising the governor, legislature and education office on statewide postsecondary education policies and funding.

Vanessa, working with another esteemed consultant, finished a unique and robust curriculum for community teams wanting to learn about collaborative community health assessments. The contract was a partnership with the Oregon Transformation Center, Oregon Association of Hospitals and Health Systems and the Oregon Public Health Division.

V Consulting is finalizing two Community Health Needs Assessments (CHNA) for hospitals in rural Oregon. The processes included primary data collection, secondary data analysis and professional design services to create a professional and useful CHNA for the hospitals.

Harvard University has invited Vanessa to participate in their Crisis Leadership in Higher Education session, at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. Vanessa will be sharing insights on leading through traumatic events, based largely on her leadership experience with Umpqua Community College.

Vanessa is booked to present an exciting workshop on volunteer engagement in Brookings, Oregon in February of 2017. The workshop and ice cream social will cover the “care and feeding” of volunteers and how to build and maintain a robust volunteer program in your rural nonprofit. Vanessa will be the keynote speaker at the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education Campus Safety & Security Summit. Her focus will be on her volunteer role as Board Chair of the Umpqua Community College Board of Trustees.

V Consulting accepted a request by the Oregon Department of Justice to present a half day training on Leadership in Traumatic Times at their annual Directors Day summit. The training workshop combined principles of leadership and trauma informed systems with Vanessa’s extensive experience leading through crisis and trauma.

Vanessa facilitated a legislative priority setting session for Oregon oral health advocates. Oral health professionals, legislators and advocates for improved oral health services in the era of health transformation met in Portland to discuss legislative priorities for the 2017 Oregon Legislative Session.

Vanessa has been invited and spoken locally, statewide and nationally on lessons learned from the UCC tragedy. Focus has been on trauma informed systems of response and leadership during traumatic events.

Vanessa is invited by the FBI and joins the Douglas County Sherriff and Fire Chief to speak about lessons learned from the tragedy on the Umpqua Community College on October first.
Vanessa also accepted an Interim Executive Director position for a statewide nonprofit organization, The Oregon CASA Network.

Vanessa has joined a group of three other acclaimed consultants providing coaching and teaching for the University of Oregon Law School Nonprofit Clinic. The program is a dynamic interdisciplinary program designed to strengthen Oregon nonprofit organizations and works with graduate students in law, public policy and conflict resolution.

V Consulting is now contracting with the Oregon Transformation Center to provide technical assistance to Coordinated Care Organizations across the state. As part of the contract, Vanessa spoke at the recent Coordinated Care Model Summit, drawing international interest in the health system transformation process in Oregon.

V Consulting has completed a community health assessment for three Coordinated Care Organizations (CCOs) in Josephine and Jackson Counties. Vanessa, Carolyn, Susan and Summer worked with CCO leadership, Community Advisory Council members and the Oregon Health Authority to complete the 11 month project. The project was a unique collaboration with three competing CCOs and resulted in a comprehensive health assessment. V Consulting has now successfully led Community Health Assessments for 25% of the Coordinated Care Organizations (CCOs) in the State of Oregon.

Umpqua Health Alliance, one of the first Coordinated Care Organizations (CCOs) in Oregon, has released their Community Health Assessment. V Consulting & Associates led the 12 month process resulting in a comprehensive document that meets the Oregon Health Authority requirement and Public Health Accreditation standards. The process included extensive community input, significant work with the CCO Community Advisory Council, comprehensive health status data analysis and media promotion.

Vanessa has filed for a second term as a Trustee of Umpqua Community College for district seven, representing all of Douglas county. Vanessa won the public election in May of 2009 with over 60% of the vote and remains the youngest board President of a college west of the Rockies.

Vanessa was nominated and chosen as a fellow of the American Leadership Forum. She will join twenty-five men and women - proven leaders from all sectors in Oregon-beginning in July 2012, for an 18 month fellowship. The American Leadership Forum is a national network, each dedicated to building stronger communities by joining and strengthening leaders to serve the public good. It enhances leadership by building on the strengths of diversity and by promoting collaborative problem solving within and among communities. Vanessa is honored to be provided such an opportunity and excited to begin using what she learns and the networks she builds in her consulting practice.

The Department of Justice nominated Vanessa to represent her home state of Oregon at a policy assembly in Washington DC in January. The meeting is funded by the National Crittenton Foundation, the Rebecca Project for Human Rights & the Georgetown Center on Poverty, Inequality and Public Policy. The meeting will focus on developing innovative state policies and programs for marginalized girls and women.
